1) Read the full text of "Bloodchild" before class on Thursday 5/18. If you don't have the copy Ms. Rush gave you, you can read the story HERE.
2)For each page (in the hand out, there are two pages per side of paper), leave at least two comments --> ask questions, make predictions, identify text-to-world connections, etc. These comments are the record of your thought process as you read. HW check in class on 5/18.
This is a shocking story that can be confusing at times because the world and characters are so "other" to us - so different from what we are used to. Be brave and stick with it! Re-read any pages that you need to. On Thursday and Friday we'll be working together on this text.
Sci Fi & Fantasy
Science Fiction as a genre uses extreme settings and conflicts to explore the ethics and consequences of the decisions we make in the here and now. These stories capture our imagination, challenge our perceptions of who we are, and demand that we look critically at the world we live in today so that we can be participants in determining what the world of TOMORROW may look like.
