Find a time when you can work uninterrupted for one hour. Take out your copy of "This is Water" and review the prompt below. When you're ready, set a timer for one hour and - using pen and paper - write a thoughtful and well-developed essay to the best of your ability.
** You don't have to follow TE/EA structure!!
** But DO make sure you address the prompt as completely as possible, and that you have a beginning, a middle, and an end. Your paragraphs in the middle should cite specific textual evidence, being sure to both contextualize and explain what that evidence shows.
David Foster Wallace gave a famous commencement address at Kenyon College in 2005. This speech was then published in an essay collection in 2009 under the title "This is Water: Some Thoughts, Delivered on a Significant Occasion, about Living a Compassionate Life."
Read the passage carefully. Paying paying particular attention to tone, structure, and diction, compose a well-written essay in which you analyze Wallace's portrayal of the complexities of adult life.
